Nuestro autor, presumiendo haber probado suficientemente que las ideas a las que asentimos son diferentes, para el sentimiento, de las otras ideas, y que este sentimiento es más firme y vivaz que nuestra concepción común, se esfuerza a continuación por explicar la causa de este sentimiento vivaz mediante una analogía con otros actos de la mente. Su razonamiento parece ser curioso; pero difícilmente podría resultar inteligible, o al menos probable, para el lector, sin la ayuda de una larga digresión, que excedería los límites que me he prescrito a mí mismo.

Our author, presuming that he had sufficiently proved that the ideas we assent to are different to the feeling from the other ideas, and that this feeling is more firm and lively than our common conception, endeavours in the next place to explain the cause of this lively feeling by an analogy with other acts of the mind. His reasoning seems to be curious; but could scarce be rendered intelligible, or at least probable to the reader, without a long detail, which would exceed the compass I have prescribed to myself.
